Get A Taste
Want a better feel for what the liberal arts are all about?
There are several ways to get a taste of what the Millis Institute offers:
LAUNCH Unit—A free unit for Year 11 & 12 students!
If you’re in your final years of high school, you can enrol in the unit “Faith, Learning and Vocation.” Taught by Dr Ryan Messmore, this unit is designed to facilitate the transition to higher education by examining the relationship between faith and learning as well as the notion of calling. Students who pass the unit receive automatic entry to CHC and academic credit toward their degree, saving up to $1,500. See here for more info.
The Pillar—The Institute's newsletter
Learn about news and events regarding the Millis Institute through our e-newsletter, delivered via e-mail once a fortnight. The Pillar also contains short reflections on education, the liberal arts, Christian worldview, character, and calling. Read archived issues and subscribe here.
The Witherspoon Fellowship—Leadership through liberal arts
The Witherspoon Fellowship is a two-day gathering in June that provides students a grounding in the liberal arts and preparation for leadership in a contemporary context. Hosted at CHC’s Carindale campus, participants engage in a number of formative activities, including discussion-based seminars focused on the great minds and great ideas of Western civilisation, public-speaking and debate training, interaction with established leaders about discerning one’s calling, and even ballroom dancing. For more information, see here.
Socrates in Senior School—Annual forum on timely public issues
The Millis Institute hosts an annual lecture for senior school students. The goal is to help students contribute to public conversations in a thoughtful, coherent and winsome way. Named for the philosopher known for asking insightful questions, this event explores what we should ask about important issues and allows students to pose their questions to leading experts. The inaugural event, which took place on Friday, 21 August 2015, was entitled “Marriage: What Questions Should We Ask?” and featured Dr Ryan Anderson from The Heritage Foundation in the U.S. Stay tuned for future events!
