Come for one year, then decide...

We offer two versions of the Diploma of Liberal Arts (DipLA), both of which consist of 8 units: The DipLA: Foundations of Learning and the DipLA: Foundations of Wisdom

The 8 units of the DipLA: Foundations of Learning are the same units undertaken in the first year of the Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts (BALA). Students who have completed this DipLA course are therefore able to continue seemlessly into the second year of the BALA (standard track) with full credit, if they choose.  The units include subjects from the trivium of grammar, logic and rhetoric and the quadrivium, which includes geometry, music and astronomy/science.  These subjects train students to write, think and speak well, and to appreciate various orders of God’s creation.  These units are supplemented with two Christian worldview units, including an introductory unit focusing on the relationship between faith and learning.

The DipLA: Foundations of Wisdom provides students with a sampling of different subjects, including grammar and rhetoric, music, two Christian worldview units, and two coordinated pairs of units focused on history, literature and philosophy (one pair coverig the Ancient World and the other pair covering the Middle Ages and Renaissance).  This course thus initiates students into each of the key disciplines taught at the Millis Institute.
